### Fatbike-Paradise Costa Calma<\/h3>\n

We\u2019re right in the middle of Costa Calma on Fuerteventura \u2014 one of the best places for fat bikes. Conditions are good year-round, whether it\u2019s spring, summer, fall, or winter.<\/p>\n

### Local knowledge that matters<\/h3>\n

We\u2019ve lived on Fuerteventura for many years and know the island inside and out. Tens of thousands of kilometers of riding experience help us give you the right recommendations.<\/p>\n

We regularly see riders on the wrong terrain: road bikes on busy main roads, strong trade-wind days on the windiest stretches, or heading inland unprepared during Calima (hot desert dust and dry air). It doesn\u2019t have to be that way. Knowing where, when, and how to ride on Fuerteventura means more fun and more safety. Just ask us \u2014 we\u2019ll give you the tips that actually help.<\/p>\n

### What is a fat bike?<\/h3>\n

A lot of people wonder: What exactly is a fat bike?<\/p>\n

What do I need it for? And how does it ride?\nFat bikes have their roots in Alaska. Back in the mid-1980s, people there started welding wide rims and sewing extra-thick tires (up to 4.8 inches) so they could keep moving in deep snow. Today they\u2019re a solid part of the cycling world \u2014 and especially useful on Fuerteventura.<\/p>\n

The terrain here includes a lot of sand, loose surfaces, and mixed ground. That\u2019s exactly what the wide, low-pressure tires are made for. On a normal mountain bike (for example with 2.1-inch tires) you sink quickly in the sand. On a fat bike you stay on top and get noticeably more grip \u2014 climbing, descending, and cornering.<\/p>\n

The switch takes a little getting used to. Steering feels more sluggish because of the larger contact patch. In return you get good damping comfort and the bike rolls over obstacles easily. At around 14 kg it\u2019s no featherweight, but it\u2019s a true all-rounder for fun and exploration rides.<\/p>\n

### Fat is fun<\/h3>\n

Fat bikes are no longer just a trend. They belong in the regular lineup of a good rental shop. If you\u2019re not chasing performance, kilometers, and elevation gain, but simply want to ride relaxed with plenty of grip, a fat bike is often the better choice.<\/p>\n
