Fuerteventura: Cycling in Winter (Now Through March 2027)<\/h1>\n

If you\u2019re looking for fun winter riding without heading to the Alps or battling northern European rain, Costa Calma on Fuerteventura delivers. From late October through the end of March, the south of the island offers mild temperatures, abundant sunshine, and a mix of smooth coastal roads, gravel tracks, and open volcanic terrain\u2014all within a compact 50 km radius.<\/p>\n

### Weather That Actually Works for Cycling<\/h3>\n

Current conditions in late October are typical of the shoulder into winter: daytime temperatures around 23\u201326 \u00b0C. Light to moderate winds, and very low rain chances. Looking ahead through March, long-term averages show daytime highs of roughly 20\u201322 \u00b0C and nighttime lows of 13\u201316 \u00b0C. Rainfall stays minimal\u2014usually under 20 mm per month and only a couple of wet days. Sunshine averages 6\u20138 hours daily.<\/p>\n

Trade winds are present year-round but generally a lot lighter and less relentless in winter than in the peak summer months. Still, the wind is a factor: plan out-and-back rides or loops so the return leg works with it when possible. Overall, the climate is ideal for base miles, skills sessions, or simply escaping cold weather at home.<\/p>\n

### Road Biking: Coastal Miles and Quiet Roads<\/h3>\n

The standout feature for road cyclists is the dedicated Jand\u00eda\u2013Costa Calma bike path. This mostly segregated cycleway runs south along the coast toward Morro Jable (roughly 20\u201325 km one way), offering ocean views, steady but manageable elevation, and far less traffic than the main road. It\u2019s perfect for relaxed endurance rides or sharper efforts. Shorter coastal loops and gentle inland climbs keep rides well under 50 km while still delivering variety. That said, starting from Costa Calma and heading north on the west coast gives you the best of round trips. There are options for 30km, 42km (around 900m of elevation), 75km and 100km (which delivers 1800m of elevation). Same as the south direction, those rides offer some of the best views you can wish for from a bike saddle.<\/p>\n

### Gravel and Mixed-Surface Riding<\/h3>\n

Gravel shines here. From Costa Calma you can link the blue bike lane and climb to Pico del Viento (17km from Costa Calma). Or keep heading to Morro Jable and head for Punto Jandia (around 45km from Costa Calma). The most western point of Fuerteventura. Other option are the inland gravel roads toward La Pared (only about 8\u201315 km away depending on the route). Expect a mix of compacted gravel, some sandy sections, and open views across dunes and volcanic ridges. Routes of 25\u201345 km with moderate elevation (300\u2013800 m) are common and stay comfortably local. Some dune or steeper gravel stretches may require short pushes, especially after windy periods. ### Mountain Biking and eMTB<\/h3>\n

The terrain around La Pared, Pico del Viento, and the edges of the Jand\u00eda peninsula suits hardtails and eMTBs well. Expect rocky tracks, short technical sections, sandy stretches, and rewarding ocean or lagoon viewpoints. Classic loops from Costa Calma toward La Pared or higher ridges typically run 30\u201345 km with 500\u2013900 m of climbing. An eMTB opens up more elevation and longer days without turning every climb into a grind, while a lightweight carbon hardtail keeps things playful on the faster, flowier sections.<\/p>\n

### Practical Tips and Local Support<\/h3>\n

Winter days are shorter than summer, so start earlier if you want longer rides. Carry water and sun protection\u2014the air is dry and UV remains relevant even when it feels mild. Wind can make exposed sections feel harder than the elevation profile suggests, so check the forecast and choose direction wisely.<\/p>\n
