We are located in the fatbike paradise of Costa Calma, on the diverse island of Fuerteventura. Here we've got perfect cycling conditions, whether in spring, summer, autumn, or winter. It also doesn't matter what kind of bike you want to shred on—we have top-notch gear from German bike brands Ghost and Bulls, all 2016 models. Mountain bikes, fatbikes, and road bikes are ready for you. You don't have to miss out on our bikes if you're not staying directly in Costa Calma; we also deliver bikes straight to your hotel (for rentals of 2-3 days or more). We deliver to Las Playitas, Tarajalejo, Esquinzo, Jandia, and Morro Jable, covering an area of nearly 70 kilometers. We aren't just a bike shop that simply rents out bikes; we are 100% open to your needs, questions, suggestions, and feedback! We've been living on Fuerteventura for 20 years, and there's practically no corner we haven't explored on two spoked wheels. We’ve clocked tens of thousands (!) of kilometers, so you can benefit from a huge treasure trove of experience. Time and again we see riders on the wrong terrain—like taking a road bike onto a main traffic road, riding right into strong trade winds on Fuerteventura's windiest stretch, or heading inland during a Calima (brutal heat with tons of desert dust in the air and bone-dry conditions). Now onto the topic:

Fatbikes aren't just a recent invention; they have their roots in Alaska, where back in the mid-80s two rims were welded together into one wide rim. The tires for this monster were hand-sewn, hoping to get enough flotation to push through the snow more easily. At up to 4.8 inches, it was a super promising project.
And for me, that was plenty of motivation to test the new trend myself. Fuerteventura is the ultimate terrain for these fat beasts: sand, sand, and more sand! That was also the exact test track for my very first fatbike ride: sand!

Switching from a race 29er to a fatbike took some getting used to at first, but the wide tires inflated to just up to 1.0 bar offer plenty of cushioning comfort. With my normal bike (2.1 tubeless tires), I would have sunk deep into the ground long ago on any of these surfaces. And it provides massive grip—on steep climbs, at high speeds downhill, and in the corners. You should ease into cornering, though: because of the tire's massive contact patch, the steering feels a bit sluggish and you need a little more muscle to pull the handlebars out of their resting line.

A TOTAL BLAST
Full-suspension fatbikes in aluminum and carbon are available nowadays, but in my opinion, the big advantage of this fat bike lies in its simplicity as a hardtail with a suspension fork! At 14 kg and up, it's certainly no lightweight, mainly because of the added rotating mass on the tires. Even so, the fatbike is an absolute blast and—as shown by many reports on fatbike Transalps and fatbike mountaineering—a true all-rounder.

Fatbikes are no longer just a passing fad; they belong in the solid lineup of any rental station. If you don't judge your rides by watts, miles, and elevation gain, but are looking for a nimble, fun bike, a fatty is the perfect pick.
